We felt compelled to leave this review as we have just had the most ridiculous experience at this jeweller. My financee and I took our engagement rings in (one modern, one antique) to be cleaned prior to our wedding which is in two days time. After an hour we received a call saying the goldsmith was not comfortable cleaning the antique ring because it required 'all 8 claws replacing urgently', as a result 'the stone is loose' and the ring is 'not wearable in its current state'. With our wedding only two days away, this was obviously horrific news. When we asked when the work could be done, we were told definitely not before the wedding day. When we asked if it could be fast-tracked because of the extenuating circumstance, the answer was a flat no. This was obviously distressing news, as we had visions of the stone falling out during the day, and started to feel like perhaps we shouldn't even risk putting the ring on at all, such was the drama incited by the 'very urgent' written all over the goldsmith's report. They also quoted my fiancee £25 to clean her engagement ring. On leaving the shop, still without any help or solution, we popped into a shop called Ebony just down the road. They took one look at the ring through a magnifying glass, explained that it was absolutely fine, reassured us that it could definitely be worn safely for 6-12 months (as there are 8 claws and only one has actually come off the diamond) but at some point we should get the claws retipped just to be safe. They then cleaned the ring (for free). The bottom line - do not take antique jewellery to Timothy Roe, and do not be fooled into paying £25 for a simple clean.

What a wonderful shop. Excellent, knowledgeable and helpful staff and very fair prices for the quality on offer. I have just had some family jewellery redesigned into one ring and I'm thrilled with the result. Tim Roe was delightful to deal with and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend this shop to anyone - even a long journey is well worth while for the choice, the knowledge and the service.
